Bird excrement also poses a significant health risk, there are over sixty known transmissible diseases associated with bird droppings including Histoplasmosis, Psittacosis and Salmonella. Many of these diseases can lead to significant and serious illness with several fatal cases recorded in the UK.
The many ledges, nooks and crannies typically found on man-made structures present an attractive and welcoming opportunity for birds to roost and make ideal spots for nest building activities.
